Welcome to my web home!
My name is Meg (obviously!), and this website contains news about me and the things I love, and links to other people/places who know about or do the things I love.
About Meg
I was born in Buffalo, NY, and lived there for the first 21 years of my life. I developed a deep love of deep snow (grin!) and snow-skiing. I also developed a love for ice hockey. In particular the Buffalo Sabres, who remain my favorite team. I have lived in the Philadelphia area longer than in Buffalo, but Buffalo (and the Sabres and Bills) remains #1 in my heart.
With my love of hockey, and living so close to Philadelphia, it was impossible not to become a Flyers fan. I am still pretty disgruntled about the whole lock-out thing, but I am sure I will get over it once the season starts! The Hockey link will have links to Sabres and Flyers pages, and maybe some of my thoughts on the current season.
My favorite thing in the world is my family's cottage. My grandparents purchased it in the 1950's, and my father has added to it since then. It was built in the late 1800's as a bed and breakfast. We still have the pamphlet's! It is in the 1000 Islands, which I call my piece of heaven. I love to be there, no matter the weather, or season (though I no longer go up in the winter, I used to, and I loved it!). The 1000 Islands link above will have links to some pictures (of both our cottage, and the area in general), and some links to visit if you are interested in visiting the area.
As I was growing up, a large part of my summers were spent watching my Dad race cars, and working in Timing and Scoring. I loved it! I loved it so much, that when I graduated high school, my Dad got me a 1 year old 1978 VW Rabbit. He set it up for racing in Showroom Stock C, and said he would use it that year (I did not turn 18 until Oct 30, and that was the end of the racing season), and I could go to driver's school the next year, and if I liked racing, he would get another car.
Well, needless to say, I LOVED racing! I ran that rabbit, and I was good! I broke the track record at Watkins Glen (for our class), and the next day, a fellow rookie hit me, and I went end over end for quite a ways. I was crying about the loss of my car, but I was ok. Unfortunately, I was never quite as good, and as I got into activities in college, I decided I needed a different car, and it was not raceable.
Fast forward 18 years or so, and my Dad agreed to build a car if I could pay the entry fees. I had just received a $5000/year raise from Compaq, so I said yes. I have now been racing for the last 7 years, and having a TON of fun! The Racing link above will have updates (about my exploits), pictures, and other links about racing.
I am currently (and have been since 1988) working as a PC Technician. I go around and people's pcs when they are not working. I love computers, so this is not much of a hardship!
As a side thing, I have been learning (through on-line courses) about web design, and took on my region's website. That turned into a few more racing-related websites, and now I am taking on my first paying job for web design. It's very exciting! The Web Design link will have links of interest to web designer's or people who are interested in learning more. Also, links to the sites I either maintain or designed.
My current (and for the last 8 years) favorite TV show is Stargate SG-1. The Stargate SG-1 link will have links to fan fiction, and other sites that have information or content regarding SG-1.
My favorite singer is Linda Eder. I believe she is better than Barbra Streisand (which coming from me says quite a bit). She sings broadway-type music, as well as blues, jazz, and Sinatra-like tunes. Her new album (CD?) coming out this fall is a tribute to Judy Garland. The Linda Eder link will have links to her website, and possibly some sound clips.
